Overview

We are looking to offer a full-time permanent contract for a pastoral officer to join our academy as part of the safeguarding team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the DSL and a small safeguarding and attendance team to keep pupils as safe as they can be. The safeguarding team identify pupils at risk and provide comprehensive advice, support and proactive action to ensure that pupils are as safe as possible following KCSIE. This role will involve both on site and off site work and you will plan your own diary. You must be willing to cover the whole of the north of Derbyshire as your area if allocated to this. You may be allocated sites in Chapel-en-le-Frith and/or Chesterfield. You will also support attendance, as poor attendance is a safeguarding concern. The successful candidate will work with pupils, their families, our sites, APs, social care and supporting agencies to identify concerns and coordinate plans to overcome these. You must be able to provide a high quality and robust safeguarding service to the academy.

Responsibilities
  • Organise your own diary which can be flexible to meet the needs of the academy, including some planned time working at home, site based working and reactive visits for emergency safeguarding concerns.
  • Cover the north of Derbyshire as required, with potential sites in Chapel-en-le-Frith and/or Chesterfield.
  • Collaborate with pupils, families, site leaders and external professionals to identify concerns and coordinate plans to support safeguarding and attendance.
  • Provide high quality and robust safeguarding services to the academy.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and site leaders; communicate relevant information clearly to teaching staff.
Qualifications
  • Good knowledge and experience of working with disaffected pupils in a school or other alternative setting.
  • Affinity for pupils with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties.
  • Resilient with high expectations and a sense of humour.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and their families and represent the academy in meetings with external professionals.
  • Access to a car and business insurance; not required to use own car but may transport pupils if necessary.
