A welcoming and community-focused primary school in Sunderland is seeking to appoint a Safeguarding & Pastoral Support Lead to join the school on a full-time, term-time basis. The school serves a diverse pupil population and places a strong emphasis on safeguarding, pupil welfare, and removing barriers to learning so every child can succeed.
As Safeguarding & Pastoral Support Lead, you will act as the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), taking responsibility for managing safeguarding concerns and ensuring pupils are kept safe and supported. You will work closely with the Headteacher, SENCo, pastoral staff, families, and a wide range of external professionals to deliver high-quality pastoral and safeguarding provision.
Your role will include handling referrals to children’s social care, the police, and other agencies where appropriate, maintaining accurate and confidential safeguarding records, completing risk assessments, and contributing to a proactive, whole-school safeguarding culture. You will also play a key role in attendance, early help processes, behaviour support, and the induction of new pupils and families.
This role requires someone who is calm, resilient, organised, and confident working with complex safeguarding cases while building positive, trusting relationships with children and parents.
