Pastoral Lead

Location: Wood Green
Start Date: January
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Wood Green is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Pastoral Lead to join their team from January. This Pastoral Lead role is a senior, non-class-based position with strategic responsibility for safeguarding, pastoral care, inclusion, and pupil wellbeing across the school.

The successful Pastoral Lead will be an experienced Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) with strong frontline experience of responding to safeguarding and child protection concerns within a school setting. As Pastoral Lead, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring safeguarding, inclusion, and wellbeing are embedded into everyday practice and school culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead, taking responsibility for all child protection and safeguarding matters
  • Lead and manage safeguarding concerns, ensuring appropriate action, record keeping, and multi‑agency collaboration
  • Promote and embed a strong safeguarding and inclusion culture across the school community
  • Work closely with senior leaders, SEND staff, teachers, support staff, pupils, and families to support positive outcomes
  • Champion inclusive practice and early intervention for vulnerable pupils
Training and Staff Development
  • Plan, deliver, and oversee high-quality safeguarding and child protection training for all staff
  • Ensure staff are confident in identifying concerns, understanding thresholds, and following safeguarding procedures
  • Provide ongoing guidance and professional support to staff on pastoral and safeguarding matters
  • Keep safeguarding knowledge up to date and ensure training reflects current statutory guidance
The Ideal Candidate
  • Proven experience working as a Pastoral Lead or Designated Safeguarding Lead in a school setting
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, inclusion, and best practice
  • Experience supporting vulnerable pupils and families, including complex safeguarding cases
  • A clear commitment to inclusion, equality, and child-centred practice
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
