Job summary

The Emerald Group in London is seeking an Underwriter to manage risk within the Partnerships division, developing the strategy and governance to meet regulatory requirements.

The role focuses on risk assessment, pricing, data handling and endorsements, with emphasis on analytical and technical capabilities for Property, Casualty or delegated business.

• Reviewing opportunities/submissions and determining degree of risk for each account/partnership.

Responsibilities

• Review opportunities/submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs and financial reports to determine degree of risk.
• Calculate appropriate risk premium using pricing tools with consideration for reinsurance and costs to ensure profitability.
• Process entries onto relevant systems in a timely manner ensuring data accuracy for underwriting and exposures.
• Review loss control reports and manage policy endorsement requests for changes to the policy.
• Demonstrate understanding of underwriting and insurance knowledge; experience in Property, Casualty or delegated business is beneficial.
• Utilize Excel, data/MI tools and catastrophe models.
• Exhibit excellent analytical and technical skills.

Job description

The Underwriter will underwrite risk within the Partnerships division, ensuring effective risk selection, governance and resources are in place to develop the strategy, implement the business plan, monitor performance and meet regulatory requirements.

• Location: London
• Type: Permanent

Key Duties (Including but not limited to):

• Reviewing opportunities/submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs and financial reports while conducting appropriate research to determine degree of risk for each account/partnership agreement.
• Calculating appropriate risk premium by utilising pricing tools for the specific line of business with additional consideration for reinsurance and other costs while ensuring profitability.
• Processing entries, as required, properly onto relevant systems in a timely manner ensuring accuracy of data with relation to both underwriting and exposures
• Reviewing loss control reports and managing policy endorsement requests to process any necessary changes to the policy
• An understanding of underwriting and insurance knowledge – experience of writing Property, Casualty or delegated business would be beneficial
• An understanding of relevant software including Excel, data/MI tools and catastrophe models
• Excellent analytical and technical skills
