Job summary

Essex County Council seeks a Part Time Domestic Assistant in Chelmsford. You will support laundry, cleaning of communal areas, bedrooms and kitchens at Bridgemarsh residential home, ensuring high hygiene standards and safe food handling.

Hours are split, typically 1pm–6pm, with every other weekend work. Pro rata salary reflects part-time hours and includes a 6% allowance, with a closing date 8 October 2026.

Qualifications

• GCSE or equivalent; by experience
• Health and safety experience and relevant qualifications
• First Aid qualification, training and experience
• Knowledge of basic food hygiene
• High standards of cleanliness
• Experience in residential care settings for young people
• Ability to work on own initiative and be flexible
• Friendly and empathetic toward others

Responsibilities

• Ensure all laundry duties are undertaken efficiently and timely
• Contribute to kitchen efficiency and cleanliness of tools, crockery and pans
• Undertake kitchen and dining duties including basic food preparation to ensure hygiene
• Carry out full range of cleaning tasks including toilets and windows and sterilising equipment
• Replenish hand towels, toilet rolls and soap throughout the building
• Monitor supplies and notify when stock needs ordering
• Load and unload dishwashers
• Meet annual targets within performance management framework
• Monitor health and safety in the workplace
• Follow information governance and safeguarding procedures
• Attend meetings and supervision as required
• Adapt duties to changing needs of the Family Centre
