About The Role

Location: Winnett Cottage, Stevenage
Hours: 25 hours per week
Shift Type: Days only
Salary: £12.27 to £13.63 per hour + benefits

We are looking for communicative, empathic, and resilient support workers to provide a happy, therapeutic environment that allows our service users to feel safe, respected and valued. You will make a real difference to the lives of those suffering from mental health issues and struggling with addiction, helping them become as independent as possible. You will join a friendly, highly skilled, and enthusiastic care team at our care home.

Essential skills/responsibilities
  • At least 2 years of experience as a support worker, preferably with people with mental health illnesses or learning disabilities
  • Provide support as a support worker (sometimes known as a care assistant) for residents, with senior staff support
  • Perform aspects of care with or without direct supervision, including hosting recreational and activity groups, personal care, observations, and escorting duties such as general hospital visits
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of service users, promoting dignity through person‑centred care principles

Located in Stevenage (SG2 8SH), this 10‑bed all‑male residential home supports men aged 18 and older with enduring mental health conditions and addiction, often with a forensic history. We provide psychiatric after‑care and rehabilitation, and our staff are experienced with complex mental health needs. Winnett Cottage adopts a person‑centred care approach, working alongside residents and multi‑disciplinary teams to support them in achieving individual goals and acquiring independent life skills.
