Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Theatre team at Sancta Maria Hospital, Swansea. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver adult health services, focussing on inpatient and outpatient services to deliver the highest standard of hospital care, surpassing patient expectations.

You will use your experience of care delivery to undertake delegated nursing tasks within agreed parameters, set by Heads of Departments.

You will work within clinical competencies pertinent to the area of speciality and in accordance within HMTs policies and procedures and values.

Main duties of the job:

  • Delivery of basic nursing care, wound care, bladder/bowel care, moving and handling, skin and nutritional assessments, infection prevention control, and safeguarding awareness.
  • Prioritise own workload under supervision of a Registered Nurse with effective time management skills.
  • Organise and prioritise own workload, maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, and multidisciplinary team.
  • Participation in theatre operations including pre‑op checks, WHO safety checks, team briefs and debriefs, and equipment checks.
  • Assist in safe handling, transfer and positioning of patients between all areas of the theatre department.
  • Assist in the preparation and cleaning of theatres, and in the safe handling of theatre specimens and operations register.
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation and maintain stock supplies.
  • Act as a circulating member of the theatre team for a variety of specialities and complexity of cases.
  • React appropriately to changing demands, maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients.
  • Ensure adherence to HMTs policy regarding infection control and prevention.
  • Adhere to HMTs financial controls and procedures.
  • Complete core competencies for your work area within the agreed set time frame.
  • Provide ongoing support to new or less experienced staff and temporary staff.
  • Participate in activities and training designed to meet the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework and complete statutory and mandatory training.
  • Contribute to the clinical governance agenda, including audit, incident reporting, complaints management, and attendance at meetings for learning and improvement.
  • Act in an extended role (as deemed competent) as supervised by a qualified member of staff, such as a scrubbed practitioner (Level 4 qualified only).

Person Specification – Experience
  • Experience of care delivery including basic nursing care, basic wound care, bladder/bowel care, moving and handling, skin and nutritional assessments, infection prevention control, and safeguarding awareness.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload under supervision of a Registered Nurse with effective time management skills.

Qualifications – Essential
  • Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) or equivalent Diploma in Health & Social Care Level 2 equivalent to GCSE Maths and English.
Desirable
  • Trained in monitoring blood sugars, vital signs, fluid and food charts, ECG and basic life support (BLS).
  • Basic IT skills, including WORD and Outlook, standard keyboard skills.
