Overview

Job Title: Part-Time Financial Controller
Location: Merstham, Surrey
Hours: 2–3 days per week
Salary: £55,000–£60,000 FTE
Reports to: Managing Director

About the Role

An experienced and commercially minded Part-Time Financial Controller is sought to work alongside and mentor the existing finance manager. The role involves taking ownership of the finance function and providing strategic financial insight to support continued growth. This is ideal for a qualified accountant seeking flexibility while contributing to a dynamic and evolving business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations including bookkeeping, management accounts, and cashflow.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Lead budgeting and financial planning processes.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting in line with UK accounting standards.
  • Improve finance systems, processes, and controls.
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and HMRC.
  • Manage VAT, payroll, and statutory compliance.
  • Provide financial insight for decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Support cost control, margin analysis, and profitability reviews.
  • Advise on funding, capital expenditure, and investment planning.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports for the board.
  • Attend AGM and carry out company secretarial duties.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Fully or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
  • Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally in an SME environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards, VAT, and payroll.
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Commercially astute with a hands-on, proactive approach.
  • Comfortable working independently and managing multiple priorities.
