Detention Custody Officer – Campsfield IRC

Salary: £31,500 per full‑time equivalent, plus free Mitie shares and potential overtime pay. 20‑30 hour contracts available, with a mix of short and long days, night and weekend shifts.

We’re looking for respectful, diligent and caring individuals to join our team of Detention Custody Officers (DCO).

Job Overview

Main Duties
  • Care for residents entrusted to us at the centre, ensuring exceptional safety, security, dignity and respect.
  • Support residents in engaging with recreational activities, arts, crafts and other opportunities for cultural expression.
  • Carry out shift audits, administration, counts and resident searches, reporting accurately in a timely manner through our systems.
  • Ensure the safe accommodation and detention of residents so they are not harmed.
  • Pro‑actively identify and support any resident experiencing a deterioration in physical or mental health and wellbeing.
What We Are Looking For

Detention Custody Officers must have emotional intelligence, patience, resilience and professionalism. Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are essential. You may be required to resolve conflicts or prevent residents from harming themselves or others.

Specific Requirements
  • Must be a British Citizen, EU citizen with settled status or hold ILR from a Commonwealth country.
  • Bankruptcy history, CCJs, social media activity and criminal convictions will be checked.
  • Must have lived in the UK for the past three years with no significant footprint outside the UK beyond normal holidays.
  • Required to pass a basic maths and English test, and a mobility test.
