Job summary

Keoghs in Birmingham is recruiting a Military Deafness Paralegal to work on a busy Legacy Disease Team. You will support case handling from initial review through to resolution, learning essential legal processes and gaining hands-on experience with complex claims.

You will review military service records, liaise with personnel and external parties, and maintain accurate case notes while developing your litigation skills in a supportive, on-site environment at our UK offices.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a legal or professional services environment.
  • Ability to follow structured processes and work independently.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review service records and redact sensitive information for disclosure.
  • Liaise with military personnel and external stakeholders.
  • Update the case management system with timely case progress.
  • Follow up on outstanding documents, instructions, and actions to ensure cases stay on track.
  • Support MI, file closures and transfers.

As a Military Deafness Paralegal, you’ll play a vital role in managing sensitive cases, developing legal expertise, and gaining hands‑on experience across the lifecycle of complex claims.

This role will be based on site in either our Bolton, Birmingham or Liverpool Offices.

Key Responsibilities

You’ll be working at the heart of the team, providing essential support while developing valuable legal skills. Your day‑to‑day responsibilities will include:

Core Responsibilities
  • Reviewing military service records and carefully identifying and redacting sensitive information for disclosure
  • Liaising with military service personnel and external stakeholders
  • Updating the case management system with accurate and timely information to track case progress
  • Following up on outstanding documents, instructions, and actions to ensure cases stay on track
  • Managing diary systems and updating the Compensation Recovery Unit (CRU)
  • Supporting key administrative tasks including management information (MI), file closures, and transfers
Opportunities for Development
  • Reviewing and analysing medical records to support assessment of causation
  • Assisting with claim valuation (quantum), including calculating special damages
  • Supporting settlement negotiations, liaising with third parties to achieve fair outcomes
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

We’re seeking a motivated, detail‑oriented individual who is keen to develop within a legal environment.

  • Experience in a legal or professional services environment (desirable but not essential)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to follow structured processes while working independently
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • Confident in gathering, analysing, and recording information accurately
  • IT literate with proficiency in:
    • Microsoft Word
    • Excel
    • Outlook
  • Experience using a case or claims management system (desirable but not essential)

Due to the nature of this position, this role requires candidates to be a sole British National or dual national with one part being British, with no restrictions on working in the UK. Due to the national security requirements of this position, candidates must hold British Citizenship to be eligible to apply.
