Role overview

Job Description: Start date: September 2026 Location: Stevenage Duration: 3 years.

We describe an Airbus Panels Manufacturing Technician Craft Apprenticeship. You will be immersed in a stimulating manufacturing environment and gain hands-on experience in a highly specialized setting, contributing to the manufacture of large, complex Satellite Panels that form part of a Satellite Structure.

What you will be doing
  • Year 1: Study towards a Level 2 Engineering Operative ST0537 on the materials and processing pathway, gaining academic knowledge and practical experience.
  • Year 2: Experience different Production Areas to understand how a Satellite is manufactured at Airbus Defence & Space; work in small teams or one-to-one to manufacture Spacecraft Panels, Mirror Bonding and Treatments using approved processes and advanced production techniques.
  • Key activities and responsibilities include: Panel Assembly; use of various adhesives; hand measuring to meet tolerances; installation of panel features; following processes and tolerances to drawings on 3DX; final assembly; installation of panel features using laser technology; heat pipe installation to tight tolerances (as low as 0.15 mm); mirror bonding and treatment applications; surface finish measurements; application of primers and paints; grit blasting; conversion coatings and protective finishes; masking of hardware.
  • Second year includes team-building activities such as Rock Climbing, Hiking, Abseiling, Canoeing in Outward Bound UK sites.
  • Year 3: On-site work to fine-tune hand skills against the business skills matrix.
Requirements
  • No strict entry requirements for college, though a Grade 3 in Maths and English is desirable.
  • Strong communication, good time keeping, excellent work ethic, and a can-do attitude are most important.
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently; ability to follow technical instructions.

  • RIGHT TO WORK IN THE UK: You must have current legal authorization to work in the United Kingdom for the full duration of the programme. Apprenticeship roles do not meet the minimum requirements to sponsor migrant workers.
