About The Role

Painters and decorators bring everyday spaces to life by preparing and applying paint, wallpaper, and other finishes to surfaces, both inside and out. As a painter and decorator, you’d be in high demand, playing a key role in transforming residential, commercial, and industrial projects, or specializing in renovations and maintaining heritage buildings.

Responsibilities

• Applying Paint, Stains, Varnishes, and Other Finishes: Use brushes, rollers, or spraying equipment to achieve the desired finish.
• Preparing Surfaces: Fill holes, seal cracks, and sand surfaces to ensure a smooth finish.
• Applying Primers and Undercoats: Ensure surfaces are properly prepared for final finishes.
• Wallpapering: Measure, cut, and hang wallpaper to create desired decorative effects.
• Material Calculation: Estimate the materials needed for each project to avoid shortages and excess.
• Removing Old Paint or Wallpaper: Use sanding, scraping, or heat guns to prepare surfaces for new finishes.
• Mixing Paint: Achieve the agreed shade by mixing paint colors accurately.
• Protective Measures: Lay dust sheets and take other protective measures to prevent paint damage to surrounding areas.
• Client Interaction: Work in clients’ businesses or homes, ensuring minimal disruption and maintaining professionalism.

England:

• Level 2 NVQ Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting Occupations (Construction)
• Level 2 Apprenticeship Painter and Decorator
• Level 3 Apprenticeship Crafter Painter and Decorator

Scotland:

• SVQ at SCQF Level 6 in Painting and Decorating
• NPA at SCQF Level 5 in Painting and Decorating
• Painting and Decorating SCQF Level 6 Apprenticeship in Construction Building

Wales:

• NVQ Level 2 in Painting and Decorating
• Level 2 Apprenticeship in Painting and Decorating

Experience

• A minimum of 3 years of work experience in painting is required.
