Paediatric Rheumatology Specialist Nurse

The role will involve working with a range of stakeholders across Health, Social Care and third sector organisations to facilitate appropriate care for children with Rheumatology across the region.

The successful candidate will act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the patients and carers and multi‑professional team across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland, as well as our neighbouring counties.

The role will involve working alongside other members of the Rheumatology multidisciplinary team and Regional Lead Nurse to ensure children and young people access high‑quality rheumatology care.

Main duties of the job
  • Act as a clinical expert and professional resource to the patients, carers and multi‑professional team, within the rheumatology service.
  • Work alongside other Rheumatology team leader, specialist nurses and multi‑disciplinary team to ensure the development and delivery of a high quality service.
  • Directly or indirectly influence all aspects of care and management of patients within the service/specialty.
  • Deliver high quality, clinically effective care, and patient experience, utilising research and in collaboration with colleagues in everyday practice.
  • Act as a role model and clinical resource demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership in the specialist area.
  • Support the development and delivery of a program of practice and professional development for staff within the specialty.

Job responsibilities

Be a registered children’s nurse with a degree‑level education.

Have a post‑registration teaching qualification and be able to support student nurses.

Have at least 5 years post‑qualification experience with at least two years within the speciality.

Evidence of continued professional development.

Evidence of change management within practice.

Communication skills to include conveying sensitive information to patients and families, minimising conflict, communicating within the MDT.

Able to independently travel across Leicestershire.

Able to demonstrate a commitment to treating all individuals with dignity and respect appropriate to their needs.

Training & Qualifications (Essential)
  • First‑Level Nurse/Midwife
  • Post‑basic Specialist Qualification or willingness to undertake
  • Recognised Teaching Qualification
  • Evidence of post‑registration educational continuing development
  • Have completed a Practice Assessor preparation day and have recent experience in workplace, supporting learners and supervising their progress and assessing their practice.
  • Recordable specialist qualification at Degree level
  • Clinical Leadership Programme
  • Acupuncture course or willingness to undertake
  • Have successfully completed a previous NMC Approved Teaching and Assessing or equivalent
Experience (Essential)
  • 3 years Post‑Reg experience to include 1‑2 years in relevant speciality
  • Clinical experience at band 5 or above
  • Evidence of management/leadership skills and autonomous practice
Desirable
  • Participation in Research
  • Development of multi‑disciplinary working practices
  • Demonstrates experience of clinical risk management
  • Recordable specialist qualification at Degree level
  • Clinical Leadership Programme
  • Acupuncture course or willingness to undertake
  • Have previously completed NMC Approved Teaching and Assessing or equivalent
