Pulse Healthcare is recruiting a Paediatric Occupational Therapist to join a specialist SEN academy in Kent on an ongoing locum basis starting September 2026. The role focuses on children aged 8-19 with moderate to severe learning difficulties, ASD, and speech and language needs.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver assessments, interventions and contribute to EHCP outcomes. HCPC registered OT with experience in educational settings is required.

Qualifications

  • HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Experience working with children/young people with ASD and/or learning disabilities.
  • Understanding of sensory integration and occupation-focused practice.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and report-writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality occupational therapy assessments and interventions for pupils with a range of needs.
  • Help pupils develop functional skills, independence, and sensory regulation.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and multidisciplinary team to embed strategies across school.
  • Contribute to EHCP outcomes and annual reviews.
  • Deliver both direct and indirect interventions tailored to pupil needs.
  • Provide advice and training to school staff and families.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and adhere to best practices.

Our client is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapists to join their therapy teamon an ongoing locum basis from September.

The service is a specialist day and residential academy for children and young people aged 8-19 years with moderate to severe learning difficulties, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language needs, and additional complex needs. Set within an extensive campus in Kent, the school offers a highly supportive, multidisciplinary environment focused on helping pupils achieve their full potential and develop essential life skills.

This is an exciting opportunity for Occupational Therapists looking to make a meaningful impact within a specialist educational setting, working alongside teachers, speech and language therapists, support staff, and healthcare professionals to provide integrated, pupil-centred care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality occupational therapy assessments and interventions for pupils with a range of additional needs.
  • Support pupils to develop functional skills, independence, sensory regulation, and access to learning.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and the wider multidisciplinary team to embed therapeutic strategies across the school environment.
  • Contribute to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes and annual reviews.
  • Deliver both direct and indirect interventions tailored to individual pupil needs.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and training to school staff and families where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure best practice standards are met.
Requirements:
  • HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Previous experience working with children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or learning disabilities.
  • Understanding of sensory integration principles and occupation-focused practice.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and report-writing skills.
  • Experience within educational or specialist SEN settings is desirable but not essential.
