Job Summary

Croydon Health Service (CHS) NHS Trust is seeking an enthusiastic practitioner to join the safeguarding team as a paediatric liaison public health practitioner / safeguarding advisor.

CHS executes a family‑oriented safeguarding approach as part of its integrated safeguarding team (maternity, children, adults, and children looked after). This specialist nurse practitioner will support children and families at the interface of acute and community care, working 30 hours a week and based in the hospital.

In this role, you will provide training, supervision, and deliver child protection and health promotion guidance to the paediatric and adult emergency departments, and collaborate closely with safeguarding advisors on statutory responsibilities.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Provide expertise and advice on child protection and health promotion for practitioners and clinicians.
  • Identify front‑line staff learning needs and develop learning programmes to address them.
  • Lead audit and continuous improvement initiatives arising from emergency attendances to promote learning and injury prevention.
  • Deliver safeguarding supervision and training to health practitioners.
  • Ensure timely and accurate information analysis and reporting to the Named Professional Safeguarding Children.
  • Develop policies and procedures within own work function with organisational impact.
  • Contribute to Serious Case Reviews and Internal Management Reviews, supporting named nurses.
  • Support Named Professionals in CHSIST governance processes concerning safeguarding children.
  • Attend weekly Trust Safeguarding MDT meetings.
  • Act as lead safeguarding professional within specified services, as agreed with Named Professionals.
  • Provide practitioners with supportive advice on safeguarding concerns.
  • Maintain clear communication systems with Named Nurses, MASH public health nurses, acute services, and line managers.
  • Communicate sensitive and confidential information in line with current legislation and Trust policy.
  • Exhibit excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Advise practitioners and partner agencies on adult safeguarding and protection matters.
  • Manage challenging situations and behaviours.
  • Ensure records are stored in compliance with the Data Protection Act, Caldicott Guardianship, and professional standards.
  • Liaise with external agencies to ensure effective communication across the acute / community interface.
Person Specification

Knowledge and Understanding (Essential)

  • Knowledge of MCA, safeguarding children legislation, Children's Act, and the Working Together framework.
  • Understanding of safeguarding risk and safeguarding governance.

Experience (Essential)

  • Safeguarding post qualification experience (detailing which safeguarding elements were covered in current role).

Qualifications (Essential)

  • Registered Nurse / Health Visitor / School Nurse or equivalent.
  • Degree qualification or equivalent.
  • Relevant post‑registration qualification.

Desirable (Optional)

  • Previous experience in a safeguarding or liaison health visitor role.
  • Completed a postgraduate module in safeguarding.
