Job summary

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Hospital Play Worker for Ward 1 on a 22.5 hour contract in the Paediatric team. The role focuses on providing age-appropriate therapeutic play for children from 0 to 16 years, creating a supportive environment for patients and families during the hospital journey.

You will work within the play specialist team, following set play programmes to encourage normal development and distraction strategies, while collaborating

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience working with children and young people.
• Knowledge and understanding of child development.
• Awareness of NAHPS guidelines for professional practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide play and recreational activities for patients 0-16 on ward.
• Work with set Play Programmes of care under supervision.
• Plan daily activities at bedside/department.
• Promote normal development through play.
• Support patients and families under stress.
• Respect diversity and infection control guidelines.

Skills

Demonstrable experience with children

Child development knowledge

NAHPS guidelines awareness

Education

NVQ Level 3 or above in Child Development or NNEB
