Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Dietitian

Are you passionate about working with children and young people who have diabetes? Do you have experience managing paediatric diabetes and want to develop your expertise further? East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust invites highly motivated dietitians to join our children’s diabetes team.
Main duties of the role
- Provide a specialist paediatric diabetes dietetic service to children, young people (CYP) and their families and carers.
- Participate in the on‑call out‑of‑hours telephone service for CYP and families (pro‑rata).
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to formulate and deliver individual diabetes dietetic and education treatment plans, using evidence‑based practice.
- Provide clinical advice and educational support, including insulin pump therapy guidance.
- Maintain case‑load management, prioritise patients with complex needs, and use key diabetes technology and nutritional databases.
- Teach patients, families and school staff about monitoring, insulin dose adjustment, carbohydrate counting, and use of diabetes management apps.
- Support inpatient clinical visits and ward staff education during admissions.
- Contribute to structured education delivery for newly diagnosed type 1 and type 2 diabetes and to service development.
- Represent the service at multidisciplinary meetings and bring dietetic therapy into overall care plans.
- Lead and take part in audit, research, and evidence‑based service improvement projects.
- Maintain accurate patient records, comply with HCPC and BDA standards, and manage clinical risk.
- Provide training and supervision to junior dietitians and new staff members.
Qualifications
- Recognised degree or postgraduate qualification in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Completion of a recognised paediatric diabetes specialty course (or willingness to undertake).
- Membership of the British Dietetic Association (BDA).
- Membership of a specialist interest group (Paediatrics/Diabetes).
Clinical knowledge and experience
- Experience working within NHS healthcare and diabetes dietetics.
- Experience managing a variety of clinical conditions and with children/young people.
- Evidence of continuous professional development and multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Excellent verbal and non‑verbal communication skills.
- Experience providing training and education to other health professionals and to children/young people.

Other
- Ability to travel between sites during the working day to meet service needs.
- Valid driver’s licence.
