Job summary

Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Paediatric Clinical Psychologist to join a dynamic Paediatric Psychology Service. The role spans General Paediatrics, Paediatric Oncology and Tuberous Sclerosis, with a flexible 0.7 WTE across the week.

You will assess, formulate and provide interventions for emotionally and behaviourally affected children and their families. The post invites a highly specialist practitioner who collaborates with multidisciplinary teams

Qualifications

• Undergraduate psychology degree and doctoral qualification in clinical psychology.

Paediatric Clinical Psychologist

We are seeking an experienced and motivated highly specialist Clinical Psychologist to join our Paediatric Psychology Service in an exciting split role working across General Paediatrics, Paediatric Oncology and Tuberous Sclerosis (TS - a lifespan service).

This is a rewarding opportunity to work alongside multidisciplinary teams, supporting children, young people and their families at every point from diagnosis onwards.

You will provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based intervention for children and young people experiencing the emotional, behavioural and psychological impact of physical illness. You will work collaboratively with families and professionals to improve adjustment, coping, treatment adherence and quality of life.

Paediatric Clinical Psychologist (Band 8a - will consider Band 7 depending on experience, with a supported development plan)

General Paediatrics, Paediatric Oncology and Tuberous Sclerosis service (0.7 or 3.5 days/ week)

Main duties of the job

Working across General Paediatrics, Paediatric Oncology and TS you will work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary teams to support children and young people with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, contributing psychological expertise in outpatient and inpatient settings and providing psychological care from diagnosis onwards.

The role offers excellent opportunities to influence service development and innovation. You will provide consultation to multidisciplinary colleagues, deliver teaching and training, supervise trainee and assistant psychologists, and support psychologically informed care across children's services.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about providing and improving the psychological wellbeing of children and young people living with physical health conditions; has excellent assessment, formulation and intervention skills with children, young people and families and enjoys working collaboratively within multidisciplinary medical teams, while also able to work independently.

Person Specification

Qualifications and training

• Undergraduate degree in psychology Post graduate Doctoral Degree in clinical psychology or equivalent recognised and accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC)
• Current HCPC registration
• Post qualification training in a model appropriate to Paediatric Psychology e.g. EMDR, CBT ACT, Systemic Therapy Training in Supervision.

Knowledge and experience

• Experience of working with children and young people with complex presentations
• Experience and knowledge of working with safeguarding issues
• Ability to demonstrate working flexibly and independently in a high-pressure environment using highly complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
• Experience working with high distress and trauma where high level of sensitivity and skill required.
• Experience providing high quality supervision
• Experience delivering presentation, teaching and training
• Experience in paediatric psychology
• Experience working in an acute hospital trust
• Experience of different modes of working - e.g. group, behavioural management
• Experience of staff work, including debriefs after a distressing incident
• Experience of cognitive and neuropsychological assessments

• Ability to work with highly distressed, traumatised people and remain calm in challenging situations
