Job summary

Pineapple is seeking a Packaging Technologist in Aylesford, Kent. Office-based role, full-time, permanent, 8.00am – 4.30pm. You will research, develop, and source packaging solutions that are cost-effective, sustainable and protect our furniture in transit.

You’ll collaborate with NPD, Sustaining Engineering, Marketing and Purchasing, manage costings, coordinate trials and maintain quality standards. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Formal education in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Technology or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in packaging development.
  • Knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and industry trends.
  • Experience using Autodesk Revit to support packaging artwork.
  • Excellent administrative skills with MS Office and Adobe suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop cost-efficient packaging solutions across product ranges in response to project briefs.
  • Ensure packaging materials meet set requirements and specifications.
  • Develop and champion sustainable packaging strategy.
  • Research new packaging materials and produce samples to test materials and designs.
  • Liaise with marketing, purchasing and production teams as required.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality and practicality.
  • Run trials to check packaging for suitability and testing for performance under various conditions.
  • Control production and quality standards, including reporting packaging that doesn't meet these standards.
  • Evaluate, select and negotiate with suppliers.
  • Negotiate packaging options with suppliers to achieve economies of scale.
  • Support packaging artwork development process.
  • Analyse data and write reports as required.
  • Keep up to date with packaging materials trends.

What We’re Looking for

As a Packaging Technologist, you’ll be responsible for researching, developing and sourcing packaging solutions that are cost-effective, sustainable and designed to protect our furniture throughout transportation.

You’ll work closely with NPD, Sustaining Engineering, Marketing and Purchasing, as well as external suppliers, to develop packaging specifications, manage costings and coordinate trials. We’re looking for someone who is a confident communicator, practical problem-solver and comfortable working collaboratively across different teams.

What You'll Be Doing

What success looks like

You’ll be successful when you’ve developed packaging solutions that protect our products, offer value for money, meet our sustainability goals, and are delivered efficiently through strong collaboration with internal teams and suppliers.

Ideally, you’ll have:
  • You must have a formal education in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Technology or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in packaging development.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of a variety of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and industry trends.
  • Experience in Autodesk Revit to support in the development of packaging artwork.
  • Excellent Administrative skills with competent use of Microsoft Office and Adobe suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
