Reporting To – Shelley Prescott (Auntie and Guardian of the client)

Location – WF3 - Tingley, West Yorkshire

Job Purpose – To assist with a variety of tasks to enable the client to live her personal and social life according to her wishes and interests. This role does NOT involve overnight support.

About the Client Service user is a 20-year-old young lady who is diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis 1 / Emotionally unstable Personality Disorder / ADHD / and is on the Autism Spectrum. Also is on medication for these conditions as well as taking anti‑depressants. NF1 causes her to have limited learning, and she has a fluctuating mental age from acting like a 5-year‑old to a 12-year‑old to a 20-year‑old depending on her mood. Service user finds life challenging and suffers if she has no structure or direction. She often finds things overwhelming. Service user loves animals, K Pop and Formula 1.

Main Duties

  • Support Service user to complete her personal care (She is able to do this herself but needs prompting).
  • Assist to complete domestic tasks (grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, changing linen and laundry) so that things do not build up and overwhelm her.
  • Go with Service user to any social events she wishes to experience (Swimming, Pictures etc).
  • Attend medical/dental appointments.

Type of Person Required Service user needs someone who is patient but firm when necessary. It is essential that they are honest, reliable, punctual and non‑judgemental. Service user will be very tentative at the start of a relationship and needs to build a good rapport with a person based on trust and respect and with a good sense of humour. The family require someone who is easy going, flexible, able to work alone, positive, with own car and willing to travel.

What you can expect to receive Wages are to be discussed, and hours are flexible to best suit you and Myah. Family will fully brief the right person to give a better insight as to how she behaves and how best to read her. Family initially thought that 4 hours per shift would be enough but again as mentioned this can be flexible depending on the activity.

Essential Skills Required

  • Ideally someone who has worked with neurodivergent young adults in the past and has the ability to support people with behaviours that can at times be challenging (Like dealing with a toddler or having a tantrum)
  • Driving Licence / Car and appropriate Insurance
