Job description

I am a 60-year-old able-bodied man requiring support for 2 hours per week to maintain a safe and habitable home environment.

I require a flexible PA with excellent personal skills and preferably experience of supporting people with Acquired Brain Injury and knowledge of the complex mental health issues involved in long term hoarding, to support with making and maintaining a safe and habitable home environment utilising a respectful and person-centred approach to build trust and rapport.

I am concerned about nature, plants, wildlife and animals and I require a PA to be diplomatic and respectful of my views which may be unconventional.

I am not religious and ask that my PA does not discuss politics or religion with me.

It is important to me to be as independent as possible but I recognise I need support with processing tasks.

-

Duties include:
Domestic tasks:
  • Keep the small hallway clear as is required by the Local Authority Landlord - and remind me of why it is necessary - to keep the entrance / exit clear in case of emergencies and to support my tenancy requirements
  • Support me to see through my plans to: wash clothes, clean bathroom and kitchen, keep floor spaces clean and clear for safe access, change and wash bedding as needed, ensure food waste is not left, check and clean fridge
  • Support over time to clear the bed, kitchen and bathroom to facilitate usable space and put things where I intend for them to go (where I need to put them).
  • Remind me that although I find it difficult, I have agreed to engage with this support for my own safety and wellbeing and the safety of those who support me.
Social tasks:
  • Build rapport with me. I may want to talk about my interests.
  • Support with phone calls and appointments as needed.
  • Liaise with my admin support to make available any paperwork found in the course of cleaning and tidying
Personal tasks
  • I can complete personal care myself, but require prompting as and when needed

Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality

  • Reliable with good timekeeping
  • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
  • Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Honest and cheerful
  • Creative
  • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
  • Able to always work to high standards of health & safety
  • Proactive with support using a solution focussed approach (not using open ended questions which he struggles with)
  • Be flexible with support times
