Job description

OH (Overhead) Lines & HV Cables Design Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and delivery of high‑voltage infrastructure projects, including overhead lines and HV cable systems.

Ideally, you will have experience on National Grid Projects – sponsorship available and open to additional UK locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design overhead line (OH) and HV cable networks for new or upgraded transmission/distribution projects
• Produce detailed engineering drawings, cable routing plans, load calculations, and compliance documentation
• Collaborate with project delivery teams — ensuring designs meet technical standards regulatory requirements, and project timelines
• Coordinate with site engineers, procurement, and project management to ensure smooth hand‑over from design to build
• Contribute to project planning, risk assessment and quality control

Requirements

• Proven experience in HV / OH lines / high‑voltage cable network design (transmission or distribution)
• Strong knowledge of electrical engineering standards, load calculations, and compliance requirements
• Proficiency with design and CAD tools used for cable layout, overhead line design, and network diagrams
• Excellent communication and coordination skills — ability to liaise between design, management, and onsite teams
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver on time, to spec
