AP Education is seeking compassionate SEMH tutors to provide one-to-one support for CYP in the Cheltenham area. You will deliver English, maths and science sessions, tailor approaches to starting points and maintain records of progress.
Join a dedicated team with an Education Coordinator, access to CPD, and a referral scheme. Flexible, term-time working is offered with guaranteed weekly pay and opportunities to take on further placements through local authority partnerships.
At AP Education, we provide personalised, one-to-one Alternative Provision for children and young people (CYP) who cannot access education in a traditional setting. We help them rebuild confidence, re-engage with learning and work towards positive next steps.
We're looking for compassionate, creative and committed SEMH Tutors across Cheltenham and the surrounding regions to join our team.
We take time to understand each learner's needs, strengths and interests before a placement begins. We arrange detailed planning meetings, complete risk assessments and attend the initial start-up with you, helping you feel informed and prepared.
Your Coordinator provides ongoing guidance, monitors attendance and progress, and works alongside you to overcome challenges and adapt support where needed. You'll be part of a team working towards shared outcomes, with a consistent point of contact throughout the placement.
Access free CPD and training led by our Head of Education, including trauma-informed practice and supporting learners with additional needs. Our bespoke tutor platform also provides training materials, videos and practical resources.
Every learner has an allocated resource budget, allowing you to choose materials suited to their interests and needs. You'll also have access to baseline assessment tools, downloadable resources and curriculum platforms to support creative, personalised sessions.
Through regular communication, attendance monitoring, progress reports and structured reviews, we recognise achievements, identify barriers and help learners work towards their individual goals.
We offer flexible, term-time working, guaranteed weekly pay even when a learner is unable to attend, and opportunities for further placements as referrals arise through our local authority partnerships.
We recognise the commitment it takes to support CYP facing barriers to education. That's why we provide free access to DASA Rewards, a benefits platform designed to help you save money and support your wellbeing.
Benefits include:
24/7 GP access for convenient medical guidance whenever you need it.
Fuel savings, including BP Fuel offers, to help with the cost of travelling to learners.
Thousands of retail discounts and cashback offers across shopping, supermarkets, restaurants, cinema, holidays and everyday essentials.
Instant digital shopping vouchers with cashback on participating retailers.
Discounted gym memberships through participating providers.
Specialist mortgage support for contractors and flexible workers.
Professional indemnity insurance benefits, subject to eligibility and scheme terms.
Additional offers and services through the DASA Rewards platform.
DASA advertises the potential to save up to £2,000 a year, depending on individual spending and use of available offers.
You'll deliver face-to-face, one-to-one support for learners from Early Years to Key Stage 4, tailoring your approach to their needs, interests and starting points.
Responsibilities may include:
Delivering English, maths and science tuition, or SEMH-focused mentoring.
Building trusting relationships that help learners feel safe and ready to engage.
Using creative, flexible approaches to overcome barriers to learning.
Assessing starting points and supporting academic progress, confidence and engagement.
Planning purposeful sessions and maintaining attendance records and progress reports.
Working with families, your Education Coordinator and other professionals.
Contributing to reviews and supporting successful transitions into education or other appropriate next steps.
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
Autism.
Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA).
Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD).
Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).
We're interested in people who build positive relationships, think creatively and adapt their approach to help individual learners succeed.
Ideally, you'll have:
Experience teaching, tutoring or supporting CYP with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
A background in education, youth work, mentoring or a relevant therapeutic setting.
QTS or HLTA qualifications, although applicants with at least two years' relevant UK experience may also be considered without formal teaching qualifications.
Strong communication and record-keeping skills.
A patient, compassionate and proactive approach.
The ability to work independently and collaborate with a wider team.
Above all, we're looking for people who share our commitment to helping CYP move forward.
If you're passionate about personalised education and want a role where your relationships, ideas and approach can make a genuine difference, we'd love to hear from you.
