A specialist recruiter is seeking an Outfit Engineer in Glasgow for a contract role. This position involves designing and integrating ship outfit systems, producing layout drawings, and supporting facility acceptance. Qualifications

The below job description will outline this position of: Outfit Engineer

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and integrate naval and/or commercial ship outfit systems and compartments.
  • Produce layout drawings for Outfit compartments for stakeholder review and detailed modelling.
  • Update Windchill PLM with parts, systems, occurrences, and compartment data.
  • Prepare technical equipment specifications, procurement packs, and coordinate with suppliers.
  • Support and attend FATs, HATs, and SATs during build, commissioning, and trials phases.
  • Support acceptance activities for Outfit facilities and equipment.
  • Participate in HAZIDs, Safety Reviews, Design Reviews, and Zonal Reviews.
  • Develop ship design specifications and outfit packages under guidance.
  • Carry out technical analyses, evaluations, and prepare reports with recommendations.
  • Contribute to process improvements within engineering teams.
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers on engineering matters.
Outfit Scope
  • Deck coverings, coatings, insulation & linings; accommodation & wet spaces; medical spaces; ship's access & escape (doors, hatches, ladders, etc.); evacuation & lifesaving; removal routes; commissariat, galley & laundry; offices, stores & workshops; human factors; damage control & firefighting; procurement packs; safety; and compliance with Defence Standards, Lloyds and Naval Rules.

  • Experience in an Outfit Ship Design environment.
  • Knowledge of naval and/or commercial ship outfit systems and spatial integration.
  • Good knowledge across engineering discipline and ability to perform analysis using recognised tools.
  • Strong understanding of Detail Design Requirements in the engineering lifecycle.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changes.
  • Effective communication skills, verbal and written, across peers and management.
  • Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, FORAN) desirable.
