Job description

Heeley City Farm is looking for Outdoor Skills Tutors!

£13.25 per hour | 15 hours per week
2 days per week (days to be agreed), typically 9am to 5pm

An exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and experienced outdoor practitioners to deliver hands-on adult learning programmes in our unique farm setting. Help learners develop practical skills in construction, site maintenance, conservation and horticulture while making a real difference within the local community.

Heeley City Farm is a community charity based in the heart of Sheffield, working within a mini working farm to provide support, education and training to people from all backgrounds and abilities. We are an equal opportunities employer committed to creating a diverse and inclusive culture and welcome applications from all minority groups.

We are seeking Outdoor Skills Tutors to deliver three adult learning programmes during 2026-27 as part of the FACES (Family and Community Education Service) programme. Based at Heeley City Farm, you will support learners to gain practical skills and qualifications through engaging, hands-on outdoor activities.

This rewarding role involves inducting learners, planning and delivering sessions, assessing progress, and helping learners achieve Level 1 qualifications in Land-Based Studies. Courses will focus on areas including construction and site maintenance, horticulture, conservation, landscaping and woodland management.

Working with groups of up to 12 learners, you will create inclusive and engaging learning experiences that build confidence, develop practical skills and support learners to achieve their goals. Activities may include fencing, path laying, tool use, woodwork, joinery, propagation, planting, meadow management and other practical outdoor skills.

We are looking for individuals with strong practical knowledge in at least one of the relevant subject areas, experience working with groups, and a passion for outdoor education. Teaching and assessing experience, along with a relevant practical qualification, would be highly desirable. Most importantly, you will enjoy working outdoors, supporting people from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities, and helping learners reach their full potential.

We take our safeguarding responsibility seriously and candidates will be expected to supply relevant references and be willing to take an enhanced DBS check.

Closing date for applications is 5 PM, 28th September 2026

Interviews to take place during October.

Please note : We may close this vacancy early if a high volume of applications is received.

All applications are treated equally regardless of submission method. Choosing the offline method will have no impact on the outcome of your application.
