Job description

We’re in relentless pursuit of breakthroughs that change patients’ lives. We innovate every day to make the world a healthier place.

To fully realize Pfizer’s purpose – Breakthroughs that change patients’ lives – we have established a clear set of expectations regarding “what” we need to achieve for patients and “how” we will go about achieving those goals.

Pfizer offers competitive compensation and benefits programs designed to meet the diverse needs of our colleagues.

Outcomes and Evidence (O&E) Senior Manager
Why Patients Need You

Our focus is on patients and understanding the critical role our medicines play to produce better patient outcomes. Access and Value is a cross functional team of experts who create and execute comprehensive market access strategies through the integration of access policy shaping and stakeholder engagement, pricing and reimbursement, evidence generation and health economic modelling activities. Your expertise and innovative approaches will help us to better demonstrate the value of our medicines and their impact on patient outcomes.

Role Summary

You will be part of Pfizer’s dynamic market access, Access & Value UK, team and will have the important role of evaluating and delivering on the evidence needs for pre‑marketed medicines in the UK. A&V comprises three sub‑teams – Health Technology Assessment (HTA), Asset & Access (A&A) and Outcomes & Evidence (O&E). This role sits in the O&E team which leads the evidence generation needs to support reimbursement and access in the UK.

In this role, the primary function is to lead an optimised evidence strategy for the UK’s HTA submissions. This requires the individual to identify gaps in evidence, prioritise those which will make a difference to the likelihood of reimbursement and, if required, plan and deliver new real‑world evidence (RWE) studies (such as treatment patterns and healthcare resource use). To achieve this, the individual works hand‑in‑hand with HTA and A&A to drive the overall reimbursement and access strategy which requires strong cross‑functional engagement to ensure the strategies are aligned with the UK launch and wider Global strategies.

We are seeking an individual who can demonstrate experience in leading RWE studies in the UK and provide scientific input into designs and methods that will ensure the robustness and credibility of the results by NICE/JCVI. In addition, they will need to understand the HTA process and adopt a high‑level understanding of cost‑effectiveness modelling to assess how new evidence can influence the economic value of our medicines and vaccines. They will be managing multiple pipeline assets and will therefore need excellent time‑management and prioritisation skills. Strong interpersonal skills to positively collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders and key external stakeholders will also be required to ensure that our work is comprehensive and valuable to patients as well as the UK business.

Role Responsibilities
  • Develop thorough evidence gap analyses and corresponding evidence strategies (i.e. solutions for addressing gaps) for complex assets across different therapy areas
  • Work with Outcomes Research scientists in O&E to identify and support patient‑centered study requirements for reimbursement
  • Develop business cases to seek funding for studies that clearly and succinctly convey the impact of evidence generation studies on reimbursement and access outcomes
  • Lead RWE projects to a high‑standard, end‑to‑end from conceptualisation to dissemination including management of vendors or internal teams to conduct RWE projects, management of internal processes to ensure compliance with SOPs and ABPI Code of Conduct where relevant
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with cross‑functional teams assigned to an asset to ensure evidence plans remain strategic for the business, keep them updated with evolutions in relevant evidence from across the business and report on progress with active studies
  • Work with the HTA managers to develop HTA dossiers that leverage the best‑fit evidence to convey the patient‑centred unmet need narrative and that optimises the applicability and outputs of the cost‑effectiveness model in a UK setting
  • Work with Asset & Access colleagues in Access & Value UK to understand National Health Service needs and drivers for access, particularly as it relates to evidence needs
  • Maintain and develop a working knowledge of advancements in UK datasets, analytical platforms and RWE methods and that can be utilised to accelerate or enhance evidence generation
  • Source or provide appropriate training to develop skills and talent in RWE methodology
Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree or strong relevant experience across industry and/or consultancy in RWE and HTA/market access
  • Demonstrated experience in evaluating and developing RWE for inclusion in HTA, reimbursement, and access solutions, particularly in the UK setting (NICE/JCVI)
  • Lead observational research including UK databases (e.g. CPRD/HES/SACT) with deep understanding of study design, study protocols and analysis plans
  • Strong project management, strategic and analytic skills, along with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong internal and external stakeholder management skills to ensure consistency in alignment of the evidence strategy
  • Ability to adapt and change strategies efficiently and pragmatically in response to shifts in market access needs
  • Ability to convey complex data to technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Strong personal integrity and commitment to ethics and working in compliance with Pfizer policies and UK regulations

Breakthroughs that change patients’ lives

Research confirms what intuition tells us: that purpose‑driven companies perform better, are more innovative, attract and retain the best people, and know how to unleash the power of those people. Pfizer’s purpose—Breakthroughs that change patients’ lives—fuels everything we do and reflects our passion for building on our legacy as one of the greatest contributors of good to the world.

Each word in our purpose has meaning and reflects the value we strive to bring to patients and society:

“Breakthroughs” - These are the innovations, scientific and commercial, that we seek to deliver every day. All colleagues, regardless of role, level or location, strive for breakthroughs every day.

“Change” - We want to do more than simply improve patients’ medical conditions; we want to dramatically change their lives for the better.

“Patients’ lives” - We consider not only patients, but everyone they touch—including their families, caregivers, and friends—and everything they love to do. It’s an intentionally holistic view.

Our purpose ensures that patients remain at the center of all we do. We live our purpose by sourcing the best science in the world; partnering with others in the healthcare system to improve access to our medicines; using digital technologies to enhance our drug discovery and development, as well as patient outcomes; and leading the conversation to advocate for pro‑innovation/pro‑patient policies.

Every decision we make and every action we take is done with the patient in mind—and to nurture an environment where breakthroughs can thrive.

Our Values

To fully realize Pfizer’s purpose, we have established a clear set of expectations regarding “what” we need to achieve for patients and “how” we will go about achieving those goals.

The “how” is represented by four simple, powerful values—courage, excellence, equity, and joy—that define our company and our culture.

Courage: Breakthroughs start by challenging convention, especially in the face of uncertainty or adversity. This happens when we think big, speak up, and are decisive.

Excellence: We can only change patients’ lives when we perform at our best together. This happens when we focus on what matters, agree who does what, and measure our outcomes.

Equity: We believe that every person deserves to be seen, heard, and cared for. This happens when we are inclusive, act with integrity, and reduce healthcare disparities.

Joy: We give ourselves to our work, but it also gives to us. We find joy when we take pride, recognize one another, and have fun.
