Job Summary

The Diabetic & High‑Risk Foot Service is seeking a motivated Orthotist for a unique opportunity. The successful applicant will join our established therapeutic footwear team, specialising in complex diabetes caseloads. The post involves working alongside Diabetes Specialist Podiatrists and Footwear Specialists to provide optimum care and play an essential role in a multi‑disciplinary approach to patient treatment plans. This is a countywide post based in Northamptonshire. Main duties of the job

Assess and manage the on‑going care of an agreed caseload of patients within the specialist area. Care will be provided to patients with:

  • Late/end stage complications from diabetic foot disease and inflammatory arthropathies requiring therapeutic footwear.
  • Circulatory and neurological deficits and reduced tissue viability (e.g. pressure ulcers) requiring specialist off‑loading and footwear.
  • Complex medical conditions (e.g. peripheral vascular disease) that significantly impact foot pathology.

The post holder will be responsible for a defined caseload primarily consisting of patients with diabetes and associated complications. They will communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals and the diabetes multi‑disciplinary team, prescribe therapeutic stock and modified stock footwear, be actively involved in the provision of made‑to‑measure footwear, and participate in education, training and supervision of other staff in association with therapeutic footwear.
