Job summary

The Hip and Knee Surgery position at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is an Consultant-level role within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department. The successful applicant will join a team of 14 orthopaedic surgeons and provide elective and trauma services with a strong emphasis on hip and knee care.

The post involves ward rounds, MDT clinics, teaching junior staff, and participation in a weekday/weekend on-call rota within a comprehensive orthopaedic and trauma service.

Job summary

The Trauma and Orthopaedic Department are looking to recruit a Hip and Knee Surgeon. The successful applicant will join a department of 14 Orthopaedic Surgeons and will work electively, along with supporting trauma activity.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have a special interest in hip and knee surgery and will be expected to provide an elective and trauma service. They will be involved in the management of elective and complex hip and knee patients, ward rounds and MDT clinics, as well as a comprehensive Orthopaedic and Trauma service. The post will also include duties on the weekday and weekend on-call rota. The job will entail ward rounds as well as involvement in teaching junior staff.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• FRCS Orth. entry onto the Specialist Register or a Specialist Registrar within 6 months of the award of their CCST (or recognized equivalent if outside the UK) of the date of interview
• Evidence of completion of training programme offering wide experience in both elective and non elective surgery
• Evidence of progressive personal development, including research
• Interest in the surgical and management of patients with hip and knee diseases
• Inclusion on General Medical Council's Specialist Register
• Broad experience in the management of general skeletal trauma, including Paediatrics
• Publications relevant to hip and knee disease management and surgery
• Attendance at a recognised management course
• Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in hip and knee trauma surgery
• Able to provide a general trauma on call service
• Experience of working in a Multi-Disciplinary Team
• Enrolment or completion of a Fellowship in hip and knee
• Ability to work within the relevant clinical and managerial structure
• Able to Lead and motivate staff
• Able to work collaboratively with and relate to all other health care staff. Ability to effectively communicate will colleagues and especially with patients and their carers
• Keen and motivated to both learn and teach
• Completion of a fellowship in hip and knee surgery
• Computer literate, able to produce presentations, reports and statistical analysis
