Job description

As an experienced Orthopaedic Scrub Nurse/ODP, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of patients within the operating theatre. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide high‑quality care and support throughout the perioperative environment. You will also support the planning and preparation of the environment, communicating with the wider service team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the operating list assigned from start to completion, escalating any concerns in a timely manner to the floor‑coordinator.
  • Prepare the operating room for a range of cases, ensuring all necessary instruments, equipment, and staff are available for the day ahead.
  • Scrub and circulate for a variety of minor to complex procedures within your NMC/HCPC scope of practice, including elective, trauma and emergency procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with the surgical team and the wider multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Support post‑operative care as required.
  • Ensure accurate documentation is recorded and handed over.
  • Participate in training and mentoring of new staff and students as required.
  • Organise the specialist equipment required for the procedures ahead of time and communicate this with the relevant internal and external parties.
  • Complete clinical audits to provide compliance of the perioperative environment.
