Collaborating with key business partners, you'll build and implement operating model solutions that tackle M&S's most critical strategic, financial, and operational challenges.

By translating our purpose and strategy into actionable organisation build recommendations, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring we remain agile and future-ready. As a trusted advisor and coach, you'll help business areas govern their size and shape while acting as the guardian of innovative tools that empower smarter decision-making.

Join us in defining what's next for M&S!

All the details

We welcome applications from candidates seeking part-time or fixed-term arrangements and are happy to discuss flexible options that work for you.

What you'll do

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Partner closely with the Strategy, People & Business area senior leadership teams to identify the big operating model and organisation design shifts that will best enable us to achieve our goals.
  • Develop high-level organisation design and operating model solutions that enable strategy execution, including e.g. clarifying future capability requirements, recommended high-level structures, design of aligned critical metrics and governance and articulation of desired decision-making rights and ways of working.
  • Partner areas of our business to lead the development of organisation design solutions that support delivery of our strategy and transformation portfolio, incl. identifying new or revised capability requirements resulting from change.
  • Deliver detailed organisation design solutions where required (e.g. for a specific Function or Business Unit), working with HR, Finance, Transformation and other colleagues to develop OD outputs.
  • Partner People Teams and share standard processes to assure that we build high performing and effective leadership roles and teams which have clear accountabilities and meet our M&S OD Principles.
  • Contribute to the development of a suite of OD tools that support effective decision-making.
Who you are

Your skills will include:

  • Have a proven track record in the design and delivery of OD in Retail, Consumer or other Private Sector industries, ideally from within a top-tier management consulting organisation.
  • Hold advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Be a strong communicator and able to build rapport and influence at all levels of the business.
  • Have a solid grounding in OD theory and experience of applying it in practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence and poise in presenting to management and senior leaders.
What's in it for you?

Working at M&S means being part of something bigger - helping to deliver quality, value and service to millions of customers every day. We're inclusive, fast-moving and always evolving, with a strong sense of purpose and a focus on doing the right thing.

Here are just a few of the benefits that make working here even more rewarding:

  • 20% colleague discount on all M&S products and many third-party brands for you and someone in your household, available once you've completed your probation.
  • Competitive holiday allowance with the option to buy more.
  • Discretionary bonus schemes linked to your performance and ours.
  • Strong pension and life assurance to help plan for the future.
  • Tailored induction and training to support your development from day one.
  • Exclusive perks and savings through our M&S Choices portal.
  • Market-leading family policies, including parental, adoption and neonatal leave.
  • 24/7 wellbeing support, including virtual GP access and mental health services.
  • One paid volunteer day a year to support a cause that matters to you.
