A leading NHS Trust hospital in East Grinstead is seeking a Trust Specialty Registrar in Oral and Maxillofacial Services. The successful applicant will have dual qualifications and previous experience, focusing on elective and emergency cases. Responsibilities include patient management, teaching junior staff, and participating actively in audits. This position provides an excellent opportunity for professional development in a supportive environment.
The Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead is looking to appoint a Trust Specialty Registrar in Oral and Maxillofacial Services. This post would be suitable for a senior maxillofacial trainee wishing to gain further experience in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery prior to a consultant appointment. It is envisaged that the successful applicant will have existing experience and be dual qualified.
The QVH is a well recognised regional maxillofacial unit, operating on a "hub & spoke" basis to provide services for a significant proportion of the South East.
The successful applicant will be exposed to elective and emergency oral and maxillofacial surgery patients and will gain experience in how to approach clinical situations starting from the initial consultation, making the diagnosis, to clerking and preparing the patients for theatre, post‑operative management and short, medium and long term follow‑up in outpatient clinics.
The role will follow the existing training pattern in Oncology and Deformity and trauma. You will be expected to attend theatres, Oncology MDTs and the consultants’ clinics for both Maxillofacial & Urgent Cancer referrals as well as clinic patients.
If the successful candidate has sufficient experience they will be expected to contribute to the teaching programme for the junior staff and participate in the Audit and M&M meetings.
Duties will also include general ward care, upkeep of medical records and involvement in clinical audit. The duties will be varied depending upon the exigencies of the service. Opportunities for research are available and successful candidates will be encouraged to participate.
The current rota commitment is 1:6 on a non‑resident on‑call shift pattern for weekdays, which includes prospective cover for colleagues’ study/annual leave and is part of a tiered rota pattern. There is a 1 in 9 weekend on‑call rota as well. Rota patterns can be subject to change according to the exigencies of the service and, if so, we will consult with you.
You will have excellent opportunity to gain experience in the diagnosis and treatment of the injured patient and to gain experience on consultant‑led ward rounds and in consultant‑led theatre lists and in outpatient clinic settings. There is a monthly clinical governance meeting in which the post holder is expected to actively participate, as well as quarterly training for the whole department.
There is a fully equipped maxillofacial laboratory on site at QVH and in addition we have "in‑house" 3D planning available to us.
We will provide training and experience in all aspects of surgery from initial diagnosis and treatment planning through detailed pre‑op planning and surgical technique to post‑operative care and follow‑up.
