National Gas is seeking an Operations Technician (Electrical and Instrumentation) to maintain systems and infrastructure across the UK gas transmission network. You will work on electrical, instrumentation, and OT assets to improve reliability, diagnose faults, and protect critical infrastructure.

The role covers maintenance, fault finding, system improvements, and cyber security controls within a field-based, site-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Control Systems, Operational Technology, Automation, or Cyber-related environments.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, or technical documentation.
• Experience working with industrial equipment, control systems, or operational assets.
• Strong focus on safety, reliability, and engineering standards.
• Ability to work independently and manage work across multiple locations.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience with PLC, SCADA, instrumentation, industrial control, or network systems.
• Knowledge of OT or industrial cyber security principles.
• Experience in utilities, manufacturing, process industries, or critical infrastructure.
• Electrical, Instrumentation, Engineering, or related technical qualification.
• Experience participating in a standby rota.

Responsabilités

• Maintain electrical, instrumentation, control, and OT assets across multiple sites.
• Diagnose faults and restore equipment performance for reliable operations.
• Support maintenance and improvement of PLC, SCADA, control, and industrial network systems.
• Carry out inspections, testing, and planned maintenance activities.
• Support implementation of OT and cyber security controls.
• Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and specialist teams to deliver safe solutions.
• Participate in a standby rota following training.
