Job summary

James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Great Yarmouth is seeking an ophthalmic nurse to provide information, support and specialist knowledge to patients, relatives and carers, and to act as a resource to the multi‑disciplinary team.

The role includes assisting in nurse‑led clinics, managing outreach clinics, taking part in induction and training of new staff, preparing and administering drugs, and contributing to emergency triage and patient advocacy to help informed treatment

Responsibilities

• Manage staff in the absence of the Department manager.
• Participate in the induction/training of all newstaff.
• Assist in nurse led clinics.
• Ocular angiography, Retinal, Glaucoma and Intravitreal Injection lists.
• To be responsible for a nurse led clinic performing procedures as required ie lacrimal washout
• To prepare and administer drugs
• To give specialist advice to patients and relatives
• To liaise With General Practitioners and other members of the multi-disciplinary team manager.
• To cover outreach clinics when required
• Deal with patient relative enquires on telephone /SOS system and help in emergency Triage service
• To act as a patients advocate through effective support and information enabling them to make choices and decisions concerning present and future treatment
