A leading health institution in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking a Contact Lens & LVA technical assistant & coordinator. University Hospitals of North Midlands is currently unable to provide sponsorship. This is in accordance with UKVI guidelines and legislation, as these roles do not meet the skill or salary threshold for sponsorship. If you hold a graduate visa, you are welcome to apply for this role; however, it is important to note that UHNM will be unable to offer sponsorship at the end of your graduate visa. You must also have at least six months remaining on your visa at the start of your employment for training and operational reasons.

Applications are invited for the position of B3 0.4 wte Contact Lens & LVA technical assistant & coordinator. This post is a mix of technical and administrative duties, training can be provided for either element of this role.

Responsibilities
  • Act as focal point for contact lens & low vision aid service management, liaise with Orthoptic, Ophthalmology, medical secretaries, clinicians, and Orthoptic Leadership Team.
  • Clinic coordination duties – word processing, telephone enquiries, organise and implement out‑patient waiting lists, make/alter appointments, and support Orthoptic team.
  • Maintain and order stocks and supplies using the ELFS system for ordering and GRNing.
  • Perform technical roles supporting the CL/LVA service: topographical scanning, anterior segment imaging, anterior segment OCTs, and other diagnostic tests as required.
  • Teach insertion and removal of contact lenses and advise patients on adapting to, wearing and caring for contact lenses.
  • Support LVA Specialist in teaching and guiding patients with the use of LVAs.
  • Act as integral member of Orthoptic/Contact Lens/Low Visual Aid team to ensure an efficient patient journey from referral to follow‑up.
  • Use Trust systems including Medway, choose & book, Medisec, ELFS and Savience, ensuring safe data quality collection.
  • Communicate effectively with multi‑disciplinary team, clinicians, management teams, outside agencies, patients, and carers.
