Overview

A Vacancy at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking to recruit a part-time ophthalmic technician to work in our busy, friendly vitreoretinal out-patient and emergency unit for a fixed term period of one year. Previous experience as an ophthalmic technician is desirable; however full training will be given to candidates who can demonstrate the ability to work efficiently, pro-actively and with excellent communication skills.

As part of the multi-disciplinary team providing care to our patients, your role as an ophthalmic technician within our department includes assessment of visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurement, obtaining imaging relevant to the retina and instilling eye drops. The role involves working across the out-patient and emergency setting.

To plan and implement straightforward tasks and work guided by standard operating procedures and protocols, including the initial assessment of patients in both the vitreoretinal emergency unit and out-patient clinics—including but not exclusively:

  • Visual acuity testing
  • Intraocular pressure measurement using icare
  • R.A.P.D. assessment
  • Installation of eye drops
  • Obtaining imaging relevant to the retinal condition
