A regional health board seeks an Ophthalmic Technician to support the Optometry Department in delivering essential diagnostic services, including visual field tests. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Ophthalmic Technician to join the Optometry Department in Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. As an Ophthalmic Technician you will work closely with Optometrists, Ophthalmology doctors, Orthoptists, Technicians and the wider multi-disciplinary team to provide visual fields and ophthalmic diagnostics for patients attending the eye department. You will provide vital clinical information needed for the diagnosis and management of patients' eye conditions. You will need to have good communication skills, good time management, prioritisation skills and a flexible approach to work. Experience in working in a clinical environment would be an advantage.
Following training and achievement of competencies, you will be working directly with patients, undertaking visual field tests and auxiliary ophthalmic diagnostics, including imaging and visual acuity tests. This role includes dealing directly with patients, so a compassionate and friendly nature is essential. You will need to have great communication skills, be computer literate, detail‑oriented, and able to juggle your own time.
The post holder will be required to support the wider team at all hospital sites within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. You will receive full training and be expected to take an active role in your continuous personal development.
To work as part of the Optometry team to undertake visual field, diagnostic ophthalmic imaging and visual acuity testing and also administrative tasks and responding flexibly to the needs of the service.
Support the Optometry staff by assisting with some modalities of optometric interventions.
Participate in capture/provision of relevant data.
Monitor stocks of equipment and ensure appropriate supplies are ordered.
