Job Summary

We are looking for a Band 3 Ophthalmic Technician to join the Spencer Ward team at Kettering General Hospital.

The duties of the Ophthalmic Technician will be to assist and support registered staff in the delivery of high quality, individualised, dignified and compassionate care to patients. The post holder, after the necessary training and induction, will be an integral member of the ophthalmic technical service, ensuring the effective and efficient maintenance of a comprehensive patient pathway. They should have the ability to work independently as well as working closely with other members of the team. The post holder will be a key member of staff in participating in the development of care of patients attending the ophthalmic department. They are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of service users and always working in a manner that promotes the dignity and human rights of patients and clients.

Main duties
  • To assist and support registered staff in the delivery of high quality, individualised, dignified and compassionate care to patients.
  • To contribute to the effective running of the department by concentrating on tasks that directly support the needs of the patient and assists their journey, prioritising on patients as required.
  • To always work under the supervision of a registered healthcare practitioner, working within the parameters of their competence, communicating, and documenting appropriate and relevant information to other members of the multi-disciplinary team in a professional timely manner.
  • The ability to always work to a high standard, influencing and role modelling patient centered care.
