Summary Of The Role

To ensure delivery of business objectives whilst meeting commercial obligations against a range of health and safety and budgetary targets. Responsibility for ensuring all legal compliance criteria is met. Collaborative relationship management with drivers and the union is an essential part of this role.

Key Duties
  • Implementation of SHEQ plan to deliver a safety first culture
  • Provide leadership, development and support to enable their team to deliver their best every day whilst maintaining a friendly inclusive environment.
  • Ensuring customer satisfaction is paramount
  • Ensure all location colleagues are engaged and aware of the wider business goals.
  • Rigorous control of all cost lines/drivers, to ensure all controllable costs are managed.
  • Coaching and development of direct reports
Responsibilities
  • To coach, manage and motivate their team in order to develop a future talent pipeline
  • Ensure that all processes are appropriate and implemented to manage and steward safety, customer service, regulatory compliance, industrial relations, resource provision, resource utilisation and other key efficiency parameters.
  • Ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met, including but not exclusive to: operator& s licence, drivers hours/ WTD regulations within the operational line.
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture by ensuring all incidents are investigated effectively and thoroughly and follow up actions implemented and shared with the wider team as appropriate
  • Carry out regular meetings with drivers and union representatives to ensure any issues are identified and responded to efficiently and appropriately
  • Ensure that sufficient resources (assets and people) are in place in order to be able to meet customer requirements.
  • Carry out regular reviews with service providers
  • Oversee the training calendar and ensure all driver training is up to date and carried out in the required timeframes.
  • All new recruits to be trained in line with the business requirement and related gap analysis.
  • Directly and with their team build and maintain excellent relationships with other FTL OTM& s and support functions to successfully deliver the business objectives.
  • Where necessary, undertake informal and formal disciplinary, grievance and absence management proceedings in line with Company Policy
Hours Of Work

7.5 hours per day (37.5 hours per week) to be worked between the hours of 9am and 5:30pm Monday to Friday, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break.

Skills And Experience
  • Hold a full UK driving license.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Have excellent people management skills.
  • Have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Be proficient in IT, particularly Microsoft Office - Outlook and Excel.
  • Have good use of intuition and problem solving skills for productive outcomes.
  • Have the proven ability to maintain high standards of decision making in a fast-paced changeable environment
  • Have performed a role where large single site operational teams have been led to ensure a safety first culture is embedded.
  • Have proven experience of delivering excellence and managing, constructive relationships with both SME& s and larger blue chip clients.
  • Have the ability to take full detailed ownership, and experience of managing operational P& L& s.
  • Ideally have had experience of working with Trade Unions at local levels.
  • Have an understanding of Drivers& Hours Regulations.
  • Have experience working in the transport industry
  • Have experience working in a unionised environment.
  • Be educated to degree standard (or equivalent) all disciplines considered.
  • Have a Transport Manager CPC.
