A materials testing company in the East Midlands seeks an experienced Operations Supervisor to lead and coordinate field teams across multiple locations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and organisational skills and have proven experience in supervisory roles. We’re looking for an experienced and proactive Operations Supervisor to help coordinate day-to-day activity across a busy materials testing operation.
You’ll be at the centre of a fast-paced environment, ensuring field teams attend jobs with the right equipment, testing is completed to required standards, and client deadlines are met.
This is a hands-on role where strong communication, people leadership, and the ability to solve problems on the fly are essential.

Lead, support, and develop a team of field technicians and operational staff.
Plan daily / weekly workload and allocate resources effectively.
Provide guidance, coaching, and on-the-job support to ensure consistent performance.
Support new starter onboarding and training requirements.
Schedule and coordinate site-based testing jobs across multiple locations.
Ensure teams arrive on site with correct kit, calibrated equipment, and job documentation.
Monitor work progress throughout the day, reallocating resources as needed.
Maintain strong communication between field teams, the lab, and management.
Ensure all testing is carried out accurately and in line with UKAS-accredited methods.
Maintain high levels of operational quality and address non-conformance issues promptly.
Uphold health & safety standards across all operational activity.
Support audit preparation and continuous compliance requirements.
Ensure client expectations and contract requirements are met.
Escalate issues promptly and help implement corrective actions where needed.
Provide daily / weekly operational updates to the Operations Manager and other stakeholders.
Identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, or repeat issues within daily operations.
Recommend improvements to workflow, scheduling, and team processes.
Assist in implementing new operational systems, reporting tools, or process changes.
Proven experience supervising or leading teams in an operational environment (construction preferred but any industry is fine).
Strong organisational and scheduling skills with the ability to manage multiple jobs simultaneously.
Practical mindset and comfortable problem-solving in fast-changing situations.
Excellent communication skills, able to liaise confidently with field teams, labs, clients and senior management.
Experience working to high compliance or quality standards (UKAS or similar desirable, not essential).
Full UK driving licence.
