Operations Manager - Children's Residential Care

Location: West Midlands (must be able to drive)

Salary: £65,000

Claire at Amber Mace is proud to be working in partnership with a fantastic children's care provider known for delivering truly person-centred, long-term residential support to young people with a wide range of needs. This provider offers a stable, nurturing environment for children and young people aged 3-18 with learning disabilities, complex health needs, attachment disorders, and life-limiting conditions.

With an average length of stay of 8 years and all homes rated Good or Above by Ofsted, this organisation focuses on giving every child a sense of belonging, purpose, and continuity.

About the Role

As Operations Manager, you'll oversee multiple children's residential homes across the West Midlands region. Your role will be to maintain the highest standards of care, ensure full regulatory compliance (especially Ofsted), and support your Home Managers to lead strong, stable, and inspiring teams.

This is a senior leadership role that requires a confident, knowledgeable, and values-led professional with a deep understanding of children's residential services and strong Ofsted knowledge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the operational delivery of high-quality, child-centred residential care across your region
  • Line manage and provide regular supervision and development to Home Managers
  • Maintain full compliance with all regulatory standards, policies, and procedures
  • Lead on safeguarding and ensure the safety and wellbeing of both young people and staff
  • Work closely with senior leadership and referrals teams to support placements and service growth
  • Drive quality and performance, leading audits and improvement initiatives across services
  • Support workforce stability through development, engagement, and training analysis
  • Develop strong relationships with external stakeholders, including commissioners and regulators
What We're Looking For
  • Significant experience as an Operations Manager or Children's Registered Manager (minimum 5 years)
  • In-depth knowledge of Ofsted standards and children's residential regulations
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management (or equivalent)
  • Strong people leadership skills with the ability to inspire, guide, and grow high-performing teams
  • Experience of service improvement, managing budgets, and achieving targets
  • Confident managing safeguarding and complex care needs
  • A full driving licence and willingness to travel across the West Midlands
