Job summary

Portakabin Ltd. is seeking an Operations Manager for our Leeds Hire and Service Centre.

You will lead the operative team to deliver orders and services safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards, planning resources to meet cost, quality and delivery commitments while delivering excellent customer service. The role offers a permanent contract, a salary up to £48,000 per year, and the potential for an annual bonus up to 10% based on business performance.

Responsibilities

• Plan and allocate work to ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective operations
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and quality standards with RAMS and delivery docs
• Lead health, safety and environmental activities including incident reporting and investigations
• Motivate, coach and develop operatives to maintain high standards and skills
• Set clear expectations and foster accountability across teams
• Liaise with stakeholders to resolve operational challenges such as shortages or deadlines
• Monitor refurbishment times and quality guides to ensure standards
• Plan and approve overtime or changes to procedures as required
• Build networks and share best practice for continuous improvement

As an Operations Manager you will lead and coordinate the operative team to deliver orders and services safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. You will need to plan and organise resources effectively to meet agreed cost, quality and delivery commitments, ensuring excellent customer service.

Role Details

• Annual salary of up to £48,000 depending on skills and experience, plus Potential annual-on-target bonus of up to 10% subject to business performance
• Role based: Leeds Hire & Service Centre, Leeds LS12 6LZ
• Contract type: Permanent

In this as Operations Manager, role you will be required to:

• Plan and allocate work to ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective operations.
• Ensure compliance with company safety, environmental and quality standards, including preparing RAMS and other required delivery documentation.
• Lead health, safety and environmental activities, including incident reporting, investigations and active team engagement in HSE initiatives and programmes.
• Motivate, coach and develop operatives to maintain high standards and ensure the required skills and qualifications are in place.
• Hold regular conversations with individuals and teams to set clear expectations, promote accountability and sustain high performance standards.
• Liaise with stakeholders to resolve operational challenges such as material shortages, programme deadlines or client requirements.
• Monitor refurbishment times and quality guides, ensuring adherence to standards.
• Plan and secure approval for overtime or changes to operating procedures where required.
• Build effective peer networks and stakeholder relationships, sharing best practice and contributing to continuous improvement.

Our Ideal Candidate as Operations Manager

• Experience of working in site or yard operations with a good understanding of safe, efficient and compliant practices.
• Experience of supporting operational teams.
• Ability to plan work and resolve day-to-day operational challenges.
• Understanding of operational processes, methods and quality standards, with awareness of how they contribute to customer outcomes and cost efficiency.
• Effective communicator, able to build positive relationships with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders.
• Ability to plan and allocate work, clearly communicating tasks and expectations to operatives.
• Skilled in identifying day-to-day operational challenges and applying practical problem-solving.
• Confident in seeking guidance and escalating issues appropriately for approval or resolution.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues.
