Lumentum Operations LLC is seeking an Operations Chemist to support environmental testing and chemical preparation for our semiconductor fab. The role focuses on delivering accurate data and maintaining compliance for a cutting-edge laser technology facility.

The successful candidate will collect samples, operate analytical equipment, and help ensure safe handling and disposal of chemicals while supporting site safety training and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques.
  • Lab experience with hazardous materials is advantageous but not required.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in documenting data and reporting results.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Collect samples for analysis with accuracy and representativeness.
  • Operate analytical equipment to provide fast, reliable data for fabrication.
  • Report data clearly to a diverse team and maintain records per standards.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of chemical inputs and outputs.
  • Conduct site inspections and risk assessments and suggest preventive measures.
  • Coordinate and deliver health and safety training for chemical handling.

Operations chemist

Role Overview: We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented chemist to support our environmental testing as well as provide chemical preparation services to support our semi-conductor fab. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our environmental compliance as well as the manufacturing of cutting edge laser technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Be able to collect samples for analysis in an accurate and representative way.
  • Use a range of analytical equipment to provide fast and accurate data to a dynamic fabrication facility.
  • Report data to a wider team that may not have a fundamental understanding of the techniques used to generate the data.
  • Report data as well as maintain equipment and analysis records in a way that complies with internationally recognised standards.
  • Provide advice and support for the handling and disposal of chemical inputs and outputs of a large fabrication facility.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend preventive measures.
  • Coordinate and conduct health and safety training sessions for employees, including induction training for new hires regarding chemical safety.
  • Liaise with department managers to address chemical concerns and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare chemical mixes and etches to support fab operations.
  • Do chemical cleans of certain reusable components.
Qualifications
  • HNC/GNVQ/ Bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
  • Basic understanding of chromatography and mass spectrometry analysis techniques.
  • Experience working in a lab environment and with dangerous materials would be advantageous but not critical.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
