Operational Support Manager – Ophthalmology (Fixed Term)

An opportunity to join the Ophthalmology department as an Operational Support Manager on a fixed term basis. The role is a development opportunity and secondment is considered.

Responsibilities
  • Deputise for the Service Operations Manager, covering all aspects of the job when absent.
  • Work closely with the Service Operations Manager on waiting list management, performance and administration.
  • Act as line manager to administrative teams, responsible for 1:1s, appraisals, absence and sickness monitoring, Individual Development, Performance Reviews, training and Health and Safety issues.
  • Utilise problem‑solving and analytical skills to coordinate all operating theatre bookings for the consultant team, ensuring theatre sessions are booked in accordance with agreed guidelines and processes and ensuring efficient use of theatre and bed capacity.
  • Be responsible for the efficient utilisation of theatre and clinic capacity.
  • Communicate across all staff in the unit to maintain a cohesive approach to day‑to‑day tasks.
  • Manage equipment maintenance for the department.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience in an operational setting with good team management skills and problem‑solving ability.
  • Ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with consultants, medical, nursing, AHP and administration staff across the department and with other departments throughout the Trust.
  • Knowledge of waiting list management, performance and administration is desirable.
