Job summary

European Microscopy Society (EMS) invites applications for a Research Associate in Environmental Electron Microscopy at the Jeol York Nanocentre, York. The role supports the U-CAL project to visualise catalytic sites in action and to develop imaging workflows and data analysis.

The successful candidate will perform operando atomic-scale imaging, local probe spectroscopy, and modelling, with opportunities for international collaboration and extended appointments.

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or related subject.
• Experience operating transmission electron microscopes and environmental electron microscopy.
• Strong analytical skills and experience with data interpretation, simulations, and/or modelling.
• A track record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications.
• Excellent communications skills.

Responsibilities

• Visualise active sites in functioning catalysts under real reaction conditions and in real time.
• Perform operando atomic-scale imaging and local probe spectroscopy of heterogeneous catalysts.
• Develop workflows for image processing and object tracking to reveal reactive intermediates.
• Collaborate with national and international partners on the U-CAL project.
• Contribute to modelling and data analysis within the project team.
