A local council in the UK is seeking an Open Spaces Operative to join their team in Margate. The position involves a variety of grounds maintenance tasks including grass cutting, hedge trimming, and tree planting. Candidates should be physically fit and able to manage public interactions. We are currently looking for an Open Spaces Operative to join our Open Spaces Team at Thanet District Council. The role of Open Spaces Operative includes a range of grounds maintenance tasks across Thanet including grass cutting (ride-on and push mowers, strimmers), hedge cutting, weed control, maintaining beds and borders, as well as assisting with other tasks such as tree planting.
You need to be physically fit to undertake this manual role throughout the day, with a large amount of walking included. Previous experience in a similar grounds maintenance role, along with experience of driving a vehicle with a trailer is desirable, however, full training will be provided to the successful candidates (driving licence is essential). You will come in contact with open space visitors on a regular basis so you need to be able to deal with a range of enquiries including complaints. Importantly, you need to have a desire to make a difference to the residents and visitors of Thanet, along with a strong work ethic including to work in all weathers.

This is a full time position, working from the Open Spaces Depot in Margate. Working hours are set as 7.30am to 3.30pm (3pm Friday) with an unpaid 10 minute break and 20 minute lunch programmed into the day., Disability Confident
