The Job - Unreal Engine Engineer

Here at Tanglewood Games we’re always looking for top talent in Unreal Engine. Whether you’re an Intermediate, Senior or Principal with a passion for Unreal, we’d love to hear from you.

As part of our team of Unreal Engine experts, you’ll focus on strengths in Core Tech, Rendering, Gameplay, Animation, Tools, Physics or any Unreal Engine specialism. You’ll be a subject matter expert, bringing key experience to our projects and guiding client work.

You’ll engage with client studios and collaborate with our teams, solving challenges and sharing knowledge. You’ll have opportunities to learn and grow your career and expertise as you contribute to solutions.

What you’ll need to succeed
  • Relevant professional experience in game development using Unreal Engine for your level/role
  • A strong proficiency in C++ programming
  • An in-depth knowledge of the Unreal Engine ecosystem, its architecture and components
  • Familiarity with source control systems, especially Perforce
  • The ability to diagnose and solve complex technical problems efficiently

Co-founded in 2017 by veteran programmers Chris and Terence, Tanglewood Games is an accredited Gold Service Unreal Engine Partner, providing top-tier engineering and technical art services with specialisms in optimisation, porting, technology integration, and full consultation. The team’s experience spans titles including Steel Hunters, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, Grounded: Fully Yoked, Funko Fusion, Hogwarts Legacy, the F1 Manager series and Train Sim 5. We work with client studios including Warner Bros. Games, SEGA, and others we can’t talk about yet.

We’re an established games development studio that prides itself on a professional approach to serving clients and developing our staff. Based in Hartlepool in the North East of England, we can also offer fully remote positions within the UK.

What to expect

The interview process can be done remotely or in person and typically consists of two stages:

  • Technical interview (45-60 minutes) – A discussion with our technical hiring managers about your development experience and ambitions. This is usually conversational rather than a formal coding exam, though you may be asked to answer exam questions if the role demands it.
  • Final interview (45-60 minutes) – A final interview with company directors or management. You’ll learn about the studio, culture, and have opportunities to ask questions.
