Essex | Up to £80,000 depending on experience
7 nights on, 14 nights off | 7.30pm-8.30am
Build your emergency and critical care career around a rota that gives you meaningful time away from work. This Out of Hours Vet role offers seven nights on followed by fourteen nights off, alongside a varied caseload, extensive clinical facilities and an established night team with robust nursing support.
Our client is seeking an enthusiastic, confident vet for a 24-hour RCVS-accredited hospital in Essex. If you take pride in excellent patient care and enjoy the clinical judgement that overnight work demands, this role offers the scope to put both into practice.
You’ll assess and treat out-of-hours presentations, care for hospitalised patients and make timely clinical decisions as cases develop. From triage and stabilisation to ongoing monitoring and clear morning handovers, your work will help maintain continuity of care throughout the night.
Communicating sensitively with owners will be an important part of the role, helping them understand treatment options and make informed decisions at what can be a difficult time. You’ll work closely with the dedicated night nursing team, supported by strong clinical communication and management.
The hospital handles a large and varied caseload and works to gold-standard care. Recently expanded services include MRI, hydrotherapy and rehabilitation, alongside enhanced infection-control facilities and dedicated exotics, cat and dog wards. Existing services include CT, cardiology, endoscopy, exotics, orthopaedics, ophthalmology and laser therapy.
You’ll bring an enthusiastic approach, sound clinical judgement and the confidence to take decisive action while recognising when to seek support. A background in emergency work, inpatient care or managing a varied veterinary caseload would be particularly relevant. Above all, you’ll care about delivering consistently high standards for patients and communicating well with colleagues and owners.
The salary is up to £80,000, depending on experience, with the employer committed to rewarding its team above standard industry rates. Benefits include private medical insurance, robust pension schemes, comprehensive sickness benefits and in-house career development opportunities.
You’ll also receive discounts across associated veterinary, pet retail and grooming services, plus access to further discounts and cashback offers.
For a night role that combines clinical variety, established support and two weeks off after each seven-night block.
