Job summary

The Open University in Milton Keynes is seeking a Lecturer in Early Modern History on a fixed-term, part-time (0.5 FTE) contract until 31 January 2029. The role focuses on developing and delivering distance learning content across British, European and Global history modules, including interdisciplinary and postgraduate teaching.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate degree in History or cognate area; PhD preferred.
• Research and teaching experience in early modern Britain, Ireland or Europe.
• Ability to prepare printed and online distance learning materials.
• Enthusiasm for distance learning and educational technology.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills for engaging students.
• Collaborative work with others and independent work capability.
• Developing research publication record to complement History research at Open University.
• Ability to balance a diverse portfolio of work commitments.
• Commitment to equality and university policies.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to teaching, research and administration of the School, Faculty and University.
• Develop distance learning materials and assessments for distance learners.
• Present modules, participate in examination boards and student forums.
• Engage in high-quality research contributing to REF and other audits.
• Support cross-disciplinary work and public engagement through partnerships.
