Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by managing duty shifts, coordinating a team to ensure a clean, well-stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.

Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store's performance and be the specialist in implementing practical improvements through a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For

• Coordinating the team to provide the easiest shopping experience in the community
• Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, ensuring decisions are made with customers, colleagues, and safety in mind
• Being the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for daily operational queries
• Supporting the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events to create an inclusive atmosphere
• Ensuring the store is clean, tidy, and well-presented
• Prioritizing replenishment of products important to our customers
• Ensuring point of sale and shelf labels are accurate and reflect our standards
• Addressing overcharges immediately and preventing reoccurrences
• Managing queues proactively to deliver a great shopping experience
• Coordinating colleagues to meet daily priorities and manage breaks around trade patterns
• Being knowledgeable about the store and leading others to implement improvements
• Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same
• Communicating effectively with the team and keeping them informed
• Sharing ideas to simplify operations with the Store Manager
• Always prioritizing the customer and adapting service to meet their needs
• Resolving customer queries promptly and leaving them satisfied
• Recognizing colleagues who deliver great service
• Identifying and removing obstacles to excellent service
• Resolving colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalating as needed
• Ensuring adequate staffing by managing short-term absences and sickness
• Being a Keyholder and attending alarm call-outs to ensure store security
• Monitoring and acting on internal communications to keep colleagues informed
• Balancing service and replenishment duties effectively
• Supporting the Store Manager in managing colleague absence and conducting return-to-work interviews
• Building relationships with Area Managers and People Partners to escalate issues and seek coaching opportunities
• If applicable, managing day-to-day Post Office operations, including passing background checks for criminal and financial history.
