Job Title: On Street Operative (E-Cargo Rider)

Location: Penton Depot

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: 24 hours per week, Saturday and Sunday 7.30am to 7.30pm

Salary: £28,808 FTE per annum + excellent benefits

London Cycle Hire, or Santander Cycles, is the largest cycle hire scheme in the UK, recording over 1 million hires a month. The scheme operates 24/7, 365 days a year, with more than 12 300 bikes, 500 e‑bikes (plus an additional 1 400 in 2024) and over 800 docking stations across London and Southwest London.

Responsibilities

• Swap batteries and triage bikes to support the fleet and ensure customers can get where they want to go.
• Travel around London on an E‑Cargo bike; full training and a professional qualification in E‑Cargo Bike riding will be provided.
• Act as the public face of Serco’s London Cycle Hire team, representing the business positively and interacting with members of the public in a friendly, approachable manner.
• Support Cycle Hire Hubs during morning and evening peaks.
• Transport e‑bike batteries across the city using e‑Cargo bikes.
• Complete mobile triage of the cycle hire fleet across the scheme.
• Provide assistance to the workshop on an ad‑hoc basis to support workshop operations.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Confident cyclist, physically capable of keeping up with on‑street demand in a target‑pressured environment.
• At least 1 year of a clean driving licence (desirable; delivery/cycling experience beneficial).
• Previous delivery or cycling experience (any additional training will be provided).
• Ability to take responsibility for the safety and upkeep of bikes.
• Subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
